Jane Kersjes

2024 MWGA HOF Profile

Jane is a cornerstone of the Michigan Women's Golf Association and a tireless advocate for junior golf development, whose unwavering dedication has transformed countless young lives on and off the course. For over 17 years, Jane has been a beacon of inspiration and mentorship, shaping the future of the sport with her passion, expertise, and boundless commitment.

As a longstanding member of the Michigan Women's Golf Association, Jane has played a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant community of female golfers, nurturing camaraderie and camaraderie amongst players of all ages and skill levels. Her leadership and vision have been instrumental in advancing the mission of the association, promoting inclusivity, and empowering women to excel in the sport.

Jane has been a MWGA Member from 1986 to the present (38 years) and served on the Board as a Membership Director from 2004 - 2009 (6 years). She has supported and volunteers for the MWGA Girls Golf Program from 2007 to the present (17 years). She has been a member of the WMGA from 2013 to the present (11 years) and a member of the AAWGA from 2018 to the present (11 years) serving  as Treasurer from 2020-2023 (4 years). She was the first female Evans Scholar in Michigan and at MSU 1973 - 1978. In 2023, she received The MEP "The Spirit of Mercy" Award for Excellence in Volunteerism.

 

Community Service Activities:

  • Jane is an English/Math Tutor for the Mercy Education Project (MEP) from 2009 to the present (15 years).

  • Served on the MEP Doorway Dinner Fundraiser and Golf Outing Committees from 2015 to 2021 (7 years).

  • Involved with the Community Vegetable Garden for 12 years. She is an Income Tax preparer for the AARP Foundation at the Livonia Senior Center.

  • Serves on the Board of Directors for Giving Hope which gives grants to women and children in Plymouth, Northville, and Canton.  

  • In 2013 and 2014, she participated in Mission Trips to Carriage Town Ministry in Flint and in 2015 and participated on an International Samaritan Medical Mission Trip to Nicaragua serving garbage dump residents.
