Introducing Karen Peek, a pioneering figure in the realm of golf course operations and instruction, whose expertise and leadership have left an indelible mark on the sport. With a profound commitment to excellence and a passion for nurturing talent, Karen has become synonymous with innovation and progress within the golfing community.

Karen is a native of Detroit and a University of Michigan graduate and, charged with running Detroit’s three municipal golf courses, feels she has shaped her life and career with a demonstration of diversity, equity and inclusion. She was the only Black Class A member of the LPGA Teacher and Club Pro Division when she first joined, and the first from Michigan. She was honored at the 1993 National Women in Golf Summit as one of the key women in golf and shared the stage with the likes of golf star Nancy Lopez.

“I’m thrilled and humbled to even be nominated,” she said.

“Awards like this are a strong validation of the work you do and how you go about your professional life.”

 

As Director of Operations for Signet Golf Associates since 2018, Karen has had the following responsibilities:

  • Established and executed operational standards for Rouge Park G.C., Chandler Park G.C. and Rackham G.C.

  • Identified Detroit based and minority businesses as purchasing partners

  • Developed guest service and customer retention strategies while building relationships with our guests

  • Developed and sustain SOPs for operations and maintenance

  • Managing HR functions including onboarding, payroll and benefits administration

  • Developed and managed a marketing strategy across multiple platforms to reach our guests and acquire new business

  • Training, mentoring and performance management of the Operations team

  • Player development through junior programs 

  • Community engagement

 

Karen has quietly gone about hiring women and minority golf course managers and workers for more than 20 years which is a demonstration of her commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

In 2024, Karen was the GAM Award winner for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
